Electronic Journal: Chinese Southern Diaspora Studies

The journal comprises 3 sections:

  • The first section will mainly contain new, internationally refereed research articles, and occasionally previously published but significant pieces translated from regional or formerly colonial languages.
  • The second section, "Research Data and Notes", will publish primary materials, translations, data papers, short research notes, and so forth dealing with aspects of the Chinese southern diaspora, past and present.
  • The third section will be the CSCSD newsletter. Among other things, it will provide a directory of graduate students working on relevant dissertations, as well as information on the monetary prizes awarded by the Centre in memory of Jennifer Cushman, a pioneering scholar in the field of Chinese southern diaspora studies and an important CSCSD benefactor.

The journal will be partly bilingual, and Chinese researchers are especially invited to submit articles, research notes, data papers, etc. The editors hope to publish at least one original contribution in Chinese in each edition (plus a lengthy English summary), in order to facilitate wider access to recent Chinese research in this large field.

Articles based on new research should be 6000-14,000 words in length and fully documented according to the CSDS style sheet (available on-line). Shorter manuscripts (up to 4500 words) can be accepted, along with accompanying tables or translated materials, at the editors' discretion, in the non-refereed "Research Data and Notes" section.
